Katy Perry is preparing to launch her next musical chapter. According to the description of an upcoming appearance on the Unfamous podcast, the pop superstar’s new single “Watch It Burn” is scheduled for release on June 26, marking her first new music since 2025’s “Bandaids.”

The reveal arrives alongside some of Perry’s most candid comments in years, offering fans a glimpse into the emotional core of the song. Speaking about the track, Perry explained that “Watch It Burn” confronts anger and pain she has long kept buried.

In ‘Watch It Burn’, I am wrestling with my darkness,” she said. “Last year was pretty tough. I have not given myself permission to be angry my whole life over things where I should be fucking angry about. What I’ve done is I’ve pushed it down. But I… I should be fucking angry! I’m allowed to be angry for a fucking moment!

She continued by describing the song as an exercise in confronting those emotions rather than avoiding them. “Instead of falling into ‘woe is me’, I just was like, ‘Okay, let’s… this fucking pain, let’s feel this pain, let’s feel this anger, and let’s move on. Let’s learn from it also.’”

Those remarks suggest “Watch It Burn” could continue the more vulnerable and introspective direction Perry embraced on “Bandaids,” released on November 6, 2025. That single marked a notable shift toward pop-rock influences and personal songwriting, drawing inspiration from major life changes and earning strong support on digital platforms. The song reached No. 1 on iTunes in roughly 30 countries and debuted at No. 2 on the worldwide iTunes chart.

The upcoming release also arrives during one of the busiest periods of Perry’s career in nearly a decade. Her Lifetimes Tour has become a major commercial success, grossing more than $134 million while selling over one million tickets worldwide.

Outside music, Perry has remained a constant presence in headlines. Her relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has attracted widespread attention, particularly following their appearance at the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony in Los Angeles on June 12. The pair also attended the Tribeca Festival premiere of Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris, further fueling public interest.
