Shakira has shared a behind-the-scenes detail about the making of her 2026 FIFA World Cup anthem “Dai Dai.” Ahead of France’s World Cup clash against Morocco on July 9, the Colombian superstar revealed that Kylian Mbappé was the very first footballer to agree to appear in the song’s official music video.

Before arriving at the stadium in Boston, Shakira posted two videos on social media thanking her French fans for their support throughout the year. During the clips, she also reflected on the production of “Dai Dai,” revealing that Mbappé immediately embraced the idea of joining the visual, making him the first player to officially sign on for the project.

The revelation adds another connection between the French captain and one of the tournament’s defining songs. Released on May 15 through Ace Entertainment and Sony Music Latin, “Dai Dai” features Burna Boy and serves as the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across Canada, Mexico and the United States. Its music video followed on May 23, bringing together football-inspired imagery with appearances from several figures connected to the sport.

Lyrically, the track pays tribute to some of football’s greatest names, referencing Pelé, Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah while celebrating the global spirit of the World Cup. Shakira and Burna Boy also performed the song live during the tournament’s opening ceremony on June 11.

Commercially, “Dai Dai” has become one of the year’s biggest global hits. The single spent eight nonconsecutive days at No. 1 on the Daily Global Spotify Chart, joining BTS’ “Swim,” Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Stupid Song” as one of only four songs released in 2026 to log at least a full week atop the platform’s global ranking. In the United States, it also reached No. 67 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song has continued gaining exposure beyond the tournament. Shakira recently incorporated “Dai Dai” into the U.S. leg of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, and she is also scheduled to headline the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show later this month.
