JAY-Z turned his first two nights at Yankee Stadium into a celebration of hip-hop history, bringing out an all-star lineup of collaborators, family members and rap legends. The sold-out concerts on July 10 and 11 honored the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint, delivering unforgettable moments for fans across both evenings.
Each show featured a different theme while showcasing surprise appearances that reflected every chapter of JAY-Z’s career, from his earliest collaborators to some of the biggest names in music.
Night one celebrated Reasonable Doubt, with Beyoncé opening the show alongside JAY-Z for “Can’t Knock the Hustle,” even weaving a snippet of “Love on Top” into the performance. Nas later joined Hov for an East Coast rap showcase featuring “Dead Presidents,” “The World Is Yours,” “N.Y. State of Mind” and “Where I’m From.”
Blue Ivy Carter also stepped into the spotlight, playing piano during “Feelin’ It,” while longtime Roc-A-Fella collaborators Memphis Bleek and Jaz-O reunited with JAY-Z for “Coming of Age” and “Bring It On,” respectively. Alicia Keys closed the evening by performing Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind” before joining Hov for their timeless anthem “Empire State of Mind.”
The following night shifted its focus to The Blueprint, bringing another wave of legendary guests. Slick Rick appeared early in the show for “The Ruler’s Back” before performing “La Di Da Di,” reminding fans of his lasting influence on hip-hop.
Pharrell Williams revisited several of his biggest collaborations with JAY-Z, including “Excuse Me Miss,” “I Just Wanna Love U,” “Frontin’” and “Allure,” highlighting one of rap’s most successful creative partnerships.
Perhaps the loudest reaction of the weekend came when Eminem walked onto the stage for “Renegade.” The pair performed their acclaimed collaboration together for the first time in years before Eminem remained onstage for a powerful rendition of “Lose Yourself,” sending the Bronx crowd into a frenzy.
