Latto may be preparing to close a major chapter in her career sooner than fans expected. In a cryptic post shared on X, the 27-year-old rapper suggested that her upcoming fourth studio album, BIG MAMA, could mark the end of her time in music.

5/29 / My retirement album / Thank you for everything,” she wrote, immediately triggering confusion and concern across social media. Within minutes, replies flooded in from fans questioning whether the Atlanta rapper was being serious or simply building anticipation ahead of the album’s release later this month.

Some reactions reflected genuine disbelief. “retirement?? bby you just got here,” one user posted. Another wrote, “retirement boo..? retirement from what.” Others pointed out that Latto has previously hinted she never planned to remain in rap long term. “girl i can’t tell if this is just for promo because you’ve always said you wanted to retire and didn’t want to be rapping this long,” another fan commented.

Whether the tweet signals an actual exit or a dramatic rollout tactic, the timing arrives during one of the busiest eras of her career. BIG MAMA is scheduled for release on May 29 through Streamcut and RCA Records, serving as the follow-up to 2024’s Sugar Honey Iced Tea.

The rollout for BIG MAMA has unfolded across several phases over the last year. Lead single “Somebody” arrived on May 16, 2025, before Latto officially announced the album on March 20 alongside the release of “Business and Personal (Intro).” On the same day, she also revealed she was expecting her first child with rapper 21 Savage, adding a deeply personal dimension to the era. Most recently, she teamed with GloRilla for “GOMF,” released April 24.

Since breaking through with “Big Energy” in 2021, Latto has consistently expanded her profile through charting singles, festival appearances, and collaborations while balancing a more outspoken public persona. At 27, stepping away from music would make her one of the youngest mainstream rappers to voluntarily pause a career at its commercial peak.
