Young Thug has revealed why Slime Language 3 did not arrive at midnight as originally announced, telling fans on X that the highly anticipated YSL Records compilation needs a few final changes. The rapper apologized for the delay but stopped short of announcing a new release time, leaving the project’s arrival open-ended.
“Few changes sorry for the wait,” Young Thug wrote on X, addressing the growing anticipation around Slime Language 3. The update came after YSL had promoted the album for an August 28 release, with fans expecting both Side A and Side B to arrive at midnight.
Slime Language 3 was announced only three hours before its planned release, continuing the franchise’s tradition of surprise-heavy rollouts. Although a precise new drop time has not been provided, Thug’s message suggests the album remains imminent rather than being pushed indefinitely.
The project is the follow-up to 2021’s Slime Language 2 and is expected to introduce a new generation of artists connected to Young Stoner Life. While the previous installment prominently featured Young Thug and Gunna alongside a stacked guest list, the third chapter puts newer YSL names including 1300SAINT, Tezzus, diamond* and iyrus in a more prominent position.
The concept first surfaced in May, when 1300SAINT mentioned Slime Language 3 during a May 16 appearance on PlaqueBoyMax’s stream. Two days later, he teased the project again on X, setting off a slow-burn campaign that intensified throughout August.
Young Thug also gave fans an idea of the album’s musical direction during a backstage interview in June. When asked what the record would sound like, he replied, “It’s gonna sound like Barter 6, like that 2016 music.”
By August 19, Slime Language 3 had reportedly completed its recording phase. Young Thug and producer Mike Dean revealed that the album had moved into mixing and mastering, while 1300SAINT said on August 24 that the project would contain more than 30 tracks.
YSL Records then released an official trailer on August 26, previewing an extensive lineup of collaborations and confirming August 28 as the release date. The sudden announcement gave fans only a short window to prepare before the album was expected to arrive, making the latest delay particularly unexpected.
The Slime Language series has historically served as a showcase for YSL’s evolving roster. The original 2018 compilation debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, while Slime Language 2 opened at No. 1 in 2021 with 113,000 equivalent album units in its first week.
The delay comes as Young Thug prepares for another major stretch in his post-incarceration career. His first post-release solo album, UY Scuti, debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 in September 2025, and The New Generation Tour is scheduled to begin September 1 with newer YSL artists and NAV joining him.
