Ravyn Lenae has officially entered her next chapter. On May 28, the Chicago singer-songwriter announced her third studio album, Blue Island, set for release on August 7, unveiling both the project’s cover art and an intimate statement that frames the record as her most personal body of work to date.
The announcement arrives as momentum around Lenae continues to build following her breakout 2025. Alongside the reveal, she shared a candid note with fans: “Blue Island is where i found myself returning to over and over again this past year. A place shaped by movement, heartbreak, desire, confidence, loneliness, freedom, uncertainty, growth.” She continued, describing the album as something that feels “bold, restless, and most of all, alive,” adding, “I can feel myself stretching in real time and it’s fucking cool and scary.”
Visually, Blue Island signals a distinct evolution. The 14-track album cover presents Lenae standing in a dramatic natural setting, wearing a voluminous light-blue gown against moss-covered rock formations and beneath the shadow of a sprawling gnarled tree. Bathed in sharp sunlight, the image carries a cinematic, almost surreal quality that mirrors the emotional contrasts outlined in her note — memory and change, stillness and movement, intimacy and distance.
The album follows a pivotal run for Lenae, who spent 2025 transforming from critical favorite into one of alternative R&B’s defining breakout voices. Her single “Love Me Not” became her first major crossover hit, climbing into the Billboard Hot 100 Top 5 and introducing her songwriting to a significantly wider audience.
That breakthrough year extended well beyond streaming milestones. Lenae made debut performances at Coachella and Lollapalooza Chicago, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Good Morning America, completed a sold-out four-show residency at Blue Note Jazz Club, and joined both Reneé Rapp and Sabrina Carpenter on select arena tour dates.
Earlier this year, she quietly set the tone for this new era with the release of “Reputation” featuring Dominic Fike and its companion single “Bobby.” Executive produced by longtime collaborator Dahi, the tracks explored emotional unraveling with remarkable precision.
Those songs now appear to have been the first glimpse into the emotional architecture of Blue Island.
Timing also works in her favor. With scheduled festival appearances at Primavera Sound on June 4 and Governors Ball on June 6, Lenae is poised to introduce this material to live audiences just weeks before the album’s arrival.
