BABYMONSTER waste no time asserting control on Choom, a four-track burst that doubles as both a statement of intent and a snapshot of a group rapidly defining its identity. Released on May 4, 2026 via YG Entertainment, the project lands less than seven months after WE GO UP and immediately reinforces their upward trajectory.

Momentum has been building quickly. Since debuting just over two years ago, BABYMONSTER have moved with unusual clarity, pairing high-concept visuals with a tight, performance-first musical approach that now feels distinctly theirs. That evolution sharpens across Choom, where cohesion replaces experimentation without sacrificing impact.

The EP opens with “Moon,” a hip-hop-driven cut that leans into a darker, moodier palette. Production stays minimal but deliberate, giving space for attitude and rhythmic control rather than chasing obvious hooks. Energy shifts almost instantly into “Choom,” the title track and centerpiece, which pushes into explosive territory. Built for arenas and choreography, the song channels the kind of high-intensity structure long associated with YG’s lineage while still carving out a fresher, more agile identity.

Balance arrives in the latter half. “I Like It” stretches to 3:26, offering a more melodic, accessible moment that doesn’t dilute the project’s core confidence. Closing track “Locked In” pivots again, ending the record on a reflective note that subtly expands their emotional range without breaking the EP’s pacing.

One absence inevitably shapes the conversation. Member Rami did not participate due to her ongoing health-related hiatus, first announced in May 2025. YG Entertainment has maintained that activities will continue with six members—Ruka, Pharita, Asa, Ahyeon, Rora, and Chiquita—while updates on her condition remain limited, aside from Pharita’s October 2025 note that she was recovering.

Beyond the release itself, timing aligns with a larger push. The 2026–27 BABYMONSTER World Tour [Choom] begins June 26 with a three-night run at Seoul’s Jamsil Indoor Stadium before expanding into Japan across July and August.

Confidence defines this era. Few fifth-generation girl groups have built such a clear sonic and visual identity so quickly, and Choom suggests BABYMONSTER are only accelerating.
