Today, Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa are not just idols but global superstars, breaking records and enjoying successful solo careers. 2016: The Debut

BLACKPINK debuted in August 2016 with the single album “Square One,” featuring “Boombayah” and “Whistle.” Both tracks quickly climbed the charts, with “Whistle” achieving an “all-kill” by topping all major South Korean music charts.

2017: First Billboard Chart Entry

Following their impressive debut, BLACKPINK released their second single album, “Square Two,” which included “Playing with Fire.” This track marked their first entry on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart. Furthermore, the song made them the first K-Pop girl group to chart on the Canadian Hot 100.

2018: Global Breakthrough with “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du”

In June 2018, BLACKPINK solidified their status as a K-Pop powerhouse with the global hit “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du.” The music video became the most-viewed video by a Korean group on YouTube within 24 hours, amassing over 36.2 million views. The song itself peaked at number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, the highest-charting hit by an all-female K-pop group at the time. Additionally, “Square Up” debuted at number 40 on the Billboard 200, setting a new record for an all-female K-pop group.

2019: Coachella Debut, “Kill This Love,” and Various Records

2019 was a banner year for BLACKPINK. They performed at Coachella, becoming the first K-pop girl group to grace the prestigious festival. Before Coachella, they released “Kill This Love,” which set the record for the biggest music video debut on YouTube with 56.7 million views in 24 hours. “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” became the most viewed music video by a K-pop group with 620.9 million views. Their YouTube channel also hit 20 million subscribers, the first K-Pop group to achieve this milestone.

2020: The Album

In October 2020, BLACKPINK released their first full-length album, “The Album,” featuring hits like “How You Like That” and “Lovesick Girls.” “How You Like That” broke several records, including the most-viewed YouTube video in 24 hours at the time, with 86.3 million views. “The Album” debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200, becoming the highest-charting album by a K-Pop girl group.

2022: More Records Broken

BLACKPINK released “Pink Venom,” an instant hit with a music video that became the most viewed in 24 hours by a female act on YouTube with 90.4 million views. Their sophomore album, “Born Pink,” followed, reaching number 1 on the Billboard 200 and becoming the best-selling female album in South Korea.

2023: Hall of Fame

Last year, BLACKPINK’s debut single “Whistle” was inducted into the Korea World Music Culture’s Hall of Fame, becoming one of the first K-Pop songs to receive this honor.

2025: Highly Anticipated Comeback

After the global success of Born Pink, all four members focused on their solo paths. In late 2024, ROSÉ released her debut solo album, Rosie, which featured the viral hit “APT.” In early 2025, JISOO unveiled her acclaimed debut solo EP, Amortage. LISA followed with her debut full-length, Alter Ego, which spawned several high-profile collaborations, including “New Woman” with Rosalía and “Born Again” with Doja Cat and Raye. JENNIE completed the circle by releasing her first solo album, Ruby, featuring the global hit “Like JENNIE” and a collaboration with Dua Lipa titled “Handlebars.” The four members then reunited for the Deadline World Tour, their first performances in three years. Shortly after, BLACKPINK released the comeback single “Jump,” which earned them a record-breaking tenth entry on the Billboard Hot 100. Looking ahead, their highly anticipated third studio album is expected to drop in the coming months.
