Ava Max has officially stepped into her independent chapter. Her new single, “Kill It Queen,” is out now. Released on February 25, 2026, the track marks her first major drop of the year and her first since parting ways with Atlantic Records.
Musically, the song leans into territory Ava knows well. It is, at its core, a polished pop anthem driven by punchy synths and a glossy electropop backbone. The production nods to the maximalist dance-pop style that defined her early success, while tightening the focus.
Lyrically, “Kill It Queen” centers confidence and self-assertion. The track reflects on nightlife, visibility, and the thrill of owning the spotlight. More importantly, it carries an undercurrent of creative autonomy. Ava does not sound like she is chasing a trend. She sounds settled in her identity. The regal theme, first introduced in her 2020 hit “Kings & Queens,” resurfaces here with sharper edges. The crown remains — but this time, it feels self-awarded.
The rollout hinted at the reset. Earlier this month, Ava archived her Instagram posts, changed her profile picture to an image of Queen Elizabeth, and teased snippets with captions like “So it begins….” Days later, she confirmed in a birthday message that she had left Atlantic Records, describing the past year as “challenging and isolating,” yet necessary for growth.
Her 2025 album, Don’t Click Play, faced a complicated release cycle, with limited promotion and postponed touring. The experience, by her own admission, forced reflection. “Kill It Queen” now arrives without that baggage.
“Kill It Queen” is widely expected to serve as the lead single from her forthcoming fourth studio album, though details remain under wraps. What is certain is that Ava Max has drawn a line under her previous chapter.
“Kill It Queen” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
