Britney Spears has surprised fans by teasing two new projects set for release before the end of 2026, just days after saying she no longer wanted to be part of the music industry. The announcement arrived in a now-deleted Instagram video that immediately reignited speculation about what the pop icon has planned.

In the clip, Spears shared a video of herself dancing and wrote, “Just a southern girl listening and dancing to my favorite songs !!! I have two new projects coming out at the end of the year I can’t wait !!!” She did not reveal any additional details, leaving fans to wonder whether the projects are musical releases, books, or something entirely different.

The post marked a dramatic shift in tone from comments Britney Spears shared on August 7, when the 44-year-old singer reflected on the emotional scars left by her conservatorship and suggested her recording career was effectively over. Accompanying throwback photos of her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, Spears explained that the music business no longer feels like the place she once loved.

“I don’t want to be in the business,” she wrote at the time, adding that the person audiences saw performing during her conservatorship years “was never me.” Spears also revisited painful memories from that period, describing feelings of shame, humiliation and a loss of personal freedom while apologizing to her children for moments she believes she missed as a mother.

Those comments echoed previous statements she has made since regaining her freedom in November 2021. In early 2024, the “… Baby One More Time” singer insisted she would never return to the music industry, explaining that she had instead been writing songs for other artists. Then, in January 2026, she said she would never perform in the United States again for “extremely sensitive reasons,” while leaving open the possibility of one day sharing a stage with one of her sons.

Despite those declarations, the latest teaser has fueled renewed optimism among fans eager for new material. Spears has not released a solo studio album since Glory in 2016. Her most recent major musical release came in 2022, when she teamed with Elton John for “Hold Me Closer,” a global hit that marked her long-awaited return to recording after years away from the spotlight.

Outside of music, Spears has continued reshaping her career. Earlier in 2026, she sold her publishing and recorded music catalog to Primary Wave in a deal widely reported to be worth around $200 million. She has also spoken openly about prioritizing her healing, exploring creative hobbies such as making soap and candles, and reducing her time on social media.
