In an interview with The Independent (UK), Camila Cabello opened up about recent comparisons between her single, “I LUV IT,” and Charli XCX’s 2017 track “I Got It.” The buzz began when “I LUV IT,” featuring Playboi Carti, debuted in March, leading fans to draw parallels between the songs’ repetitive choruses and languid tempos.

While some speculated that Camila was venturing into hyperpop with her new album C,XOXO, she clarified, “There’s only one song that really references that genre a little bit for 15 seconds,” downplaying the perceived similarities. Despite the chatter, Camila was more concerned about her personal connection with Charli XCX, given their shared history in the music industry. Their friendship dates back to 2018 when both served as opening acts during Taylor Swift’s Reputation tour.

Following the release of “I LUV IT,” Charli XCX responded to the buzz with a playful TikTok mimicking Cabello’s “I LUV IT” video using her own track “I Got It,” accompanied by the cheeky tweet, “Come onnn mess is fun! nothing matters!” This playful interaction sparked curiosity among fans about the relationship between the two pop stars.

In her chat with The Independent, Camila recounted how Charli XCX reached out to her directly to clear the air: “She [Charli] called me and was like, ‘Hey, I hope you don’t think that I’m actually mad. This is me playing into the Brat era.’” Camila appreciated the gesture, acknowledging Charli’s playful approach: “And I totally respect that, you know?” Camila further emphasized that their friendship remained intact despite the comparisons, telling the magazine that her biggest concern was about their friendship and mutual respect.
