On August 11, Jeon Somi returned with her second mini album Chaotic & Confused. The EP features the track “CLOSER,” which reimagines Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls” through a stuttering house lens. The song opens with the same rhythmic pattern as “Beautiful Girls,” with Somi singing: “Call me your beautiful girl / And I’ma let this body work / ’Cause when it’s you and I, oh, you and I, oh / I’ma need you closer.” The sample appears again in the chorus: “Call me your beautiful girl / Black out / One more kiss, so sweet and bitter / Beautiful, yeah, we look like this / Beautiful girl / Give me one more kiss, so sweet and bitter / Beautiful, yeah, we look like this / Say I’m your world (I’m your beautiful girl) / Beautiful, yeah, we look like this.” The song’s underground, post-apocalyptic, sci-fi-inspired music video complements its dark and atmospheric tone.

Somi’s highly anticipated second EP marks a massive comeback for the K-pop star. Chaotic & Confused captures the complexity of her journey as both an idol and a young woman coming into her own. Preceded by “EXTRA,” the five-track project further cements Somi’s status as one of the most compelling female soloists in the K-pop scene. The record debuted at No. 67 on the Worldwide iTunes Chart.

Notably, this isn’t the first time Sean Kingston’s classic has influenced modern tracks. Back in 2021, Karol G reimagined the hit in “Beautiful Boy” from her album KG0516. In 2023, El Alfa and Prince Royce joined forces on “LE DOY 20 MIL,” which samples the signature riff of “Beautiful Girls.”
