Olivia Rodrigo is on track for the biggest opening week of her career. According to early projections from Hits Daily Double, You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So in Love is expected to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with approximately 400,000 equivalent album units in its first week in the United States.
If the projection holds, the album will not only become Rodrigo’s largest debut to date but also set a new benchmark for artists who debuted in the 2020s. The projected figure surpasses the opening weeks of both SOUR and GUTS, which previously held that distinction among their generation. SOUR launched with 295,000 units in 2021, while GUTS followed with 302,000 units in 2023.
The impressive forecast arrives after a dominant first 48 hours for Rodrigo’s third studio album. Released on June 12 through Geffen Records, You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So in Love generated 81.59 million streams on Spotify during its first day alone, securing one of the platform’s biggest album debuts of 2026. Spotify also confirmed that the project became the most-streamed album by a female artist in a single day this year.
Streaming momentum has been driven by a combination of blockbuster singles and deep album engagement. “Stupid Song” debuted at No. 1 on Spotify’s Daily Global Chart with 10.1 million streams, becoming Rodrigo’s third global chart-topper of 2026. Earlier releases “Drop Dead” and “The Cure” had already reached the summit, making her the first artist to score three Daily Global Spotify Chart No. 1 hits this year.
Rodrigo’s latest campaign has been building steadily for months. “Drop Dead” arrived on April 17 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, extending her record as the first artist whose first three lead album singles all opened atop the chart. Follow-up single “The Cure” debuted at No. 5 on the Hot 100 while becoming one of the year’s biggest streaming successes worldwide.
