Taylor Swift may be gearing up for a festive surprise. According to a new report from The Sun, the pop superstar secretly filmed a Christmas-themed music video for “Opalite,” a fan-favorite track from her new album The Life of a Showgirl. The shoot reportedly unfolded last week inside the Whitgift Shopping Centre in Croydon, South London—an unexpected location that has quickly become the center of online speculation.
According to The Sun, Taylor Swift flew from New Jersey to Hampshire around November 16–17, slipping into the UK under tight security. Production reportedly lasted several days, with the crew operating under strict confidentiality agreements and what witnesses described as “military-level” security. Numbered lanyards, blackout screens, umbrellas, and towering barriers were all used to block any chance of paparazzi photos. Filming wrapped without a single leaked image, fueling even more intrigue around the video.

The most striking detail is the choice of venue. Much of the video was allegedly shot inside the Whitgift Centre, a partially abandoned mall known more for its urban grit than glossy pop productions. Half the shopping complex was supposedly transformed into a vintage Christmas spectacle. Additional scenes were rumored to be filmed at the Mildmay Club in Stoke Newington, a historic North London venue often used for film and television shoots.
The tabloid also reported that the video carries a staggering £1 million production budget. The project is believed to involve Merman—the award-winning production company co-founded by Sharon Horgan, who has worked closely with Domhnall Gleeson. Sources claim both Gleeson and Lewis Capaldi appear in the video.
“Opalite” has already emerged as one of the standout tracks on The Life of a Showgirl. Despite not being promoted as a single, the song secured a massive success. Less than a week after the album’s release, “Opalite” reached 100 million streams, becoming the fastest non-single to ever reach the milestone on the platform. Now, as of November 23, the song has accumulated more than 300 million streams.
