Zara Larsson is spending spring 2026 in an unusually specific corner of the live circuit: American college campuses. While her current run through universities like Yale and the University of Delaware has sparked confusion online—particularly as her global profile continues to rise—Larsson herself has now offered a blunt explanation for why she is playing student-only stages in the middle of a major album era.

In a new TikTok, Larsson addressed the situation directly: “We’re on some sort of college show tour… I signed that sh-t a long time ago cause I needed to pay for my real tour… and once I signed that contract, I’m not pulling out. I don’t do that.” The comment, delivered with her characteristic candor, immediately reframed the narrative. The college appearances are the result of pre-existing contractual commitments made before her commercial momentum accelerated with Midnight Sun.

Released on September 26, 2025, Midnight Sun became Larsson’s third No. 1 album in Sweden and pushed her deeper into a new commercial tier internationally, landing inside the top 20 across multiple European markets. Its title track also secured her first Grammy nomination for Best Dance Pop Recording at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.

The financial logic behind Larsson’s comments also reflects a broader industry reality: touring infrastructure is expensive, and even established pop acts often rely on corporate events, festivals, and private bookings to help underwrite larger headline runs.

April’s campus performances have therefore created a fascinating contrast. On one hand, she is performing for restricted student audiences at universities; on the other, she is simultaneously preparing for one of her most ambitious release extensions yet. On May 1, Larsson will unveil Midnight Sun: Girls Trip, a deluxe reinvention featuring collaborators including PinkPantheress, Kehlani, Shakira, Tyla, and Robyn.
