i-dle has never been interested in playing by K-pop’s rules, and We Made might be the group’s boldest project yet. Released on July 6, 2026, the five-track EP embraces risk over familiarity, delivering one of the year’s most adventurous releases while reaffirming why the quintet remains among the genre’s most creatively fearless acts.
Coming just over a year after the group’s official rebrand from (G)I-dle to i-dle, We Made builds on the artistic freedom introduced during the We Are era. Rather than chasing another straightforward pop moment, Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi and Shuhua push deeper into experimentation, treating genre less as a boundary than as a toolbox.
That philosophy runs through the entire project. Electronic pop, alternative rock, minimalist R&B and hip-hop coexist naturally across five songs that rarely sound like they belong on the same record, yet somehow form one of the most cohesive EPs of 2026. Instead of relying on predictable K-pop formulas, We Made constantly shifts its perspective, rewarding listeners willing to follow every unexpected turn.
The production also reflects an evolution in i-dle’s creative process. While Soyeon—credited under both her own name and producer alias icebluerabbit—remains the project’s artistic backbone, the songwriting incorporates a wider range of international collaborators without sacrificing the group’s identity. Every track still feels unmistakably like i-dle, even as the sonic palette expands beyond anything in their previous catalog.
Two songs ultimately separate themselves from an already impressive lineup.
Released as the EP’s pre-release single on June 15, “Crow” stands as the album’s emotional centerpiece. Built around crushing guitars, thunderous percussion and an ominous low-end, the song abandons conventional K-pop structure in favor of extended vocal sections that allow each member to fully inhabit the performance. The result feels theatrical without becoming melodramatic, recalling the intensity of “Oh My God” and “Hwaa” while carving out a heavier identity of its own. Few idol groups are making rock music this uncompromising.
If “Crow” represents the project’s explosive side, “Mono” provides its emotional counterweight. Co-written by Soyeon, Shannon Bae and British rapper skaiwater, the track strips everything back to expose its central message. Sparse instrumentation, restrained rhythms and understated vocals create space for lyrics centered on vulnerability and authentic connection. The repeated line, “Cause love is louder in Mono,” transforms a technical audio concept into a surprisingly moving metaphor about filtering out distractions to focus on genuine emotion.
Perhaps most notably, “Mono” openly embraces queer themes—still a rarity within mainstream K-pop—without reducing them to symbolism or ambiguity. Instead, they become part of the song’s broader exploration of intimacy and identity, making one of the EP’s strongest artistic statements.
Visionary can be an overused word in music criticism, but it genuinely fits here. We Made isn’t simply different for the sake of being different—it demonstrates what happens when one of K-pop’s most self-directed groups refuses to let genre define its creativity.
