Charli XCX is giving fans a look behind the creation of Music, Fashion, Film. Hours after releasing her new album on July 24, the British pop star shared the project’s liner notes and special thanks, revealing that the record was born during a period of creative uncertainty.

In a candid message, Charli reflected on how quickly inspiration transformed into one of the year’s most anticipated pop releases. “I was going through a period of feeling extremely uninspired and then suddenly, out of the blue, came the seeds of the idea for music, fashion, film. I like to start making things the second inspiration strikes, and I feel extremely lucky to have a group of people around me who are down to trust me and just go with it. Thank you for being cool with me and always down for the ride.”

She also acknowledged the creative team that helped bring the album to life, offering special thanks to longtime collaborators A. G. Cook and Finn Keane, alongside filmmaker Martin Scorsese, musician John Cale, fashion designer Marc Jacobs, director David Cronenberg, photographer Aidan Zamiri, Atlantic Records, Sony Publishing, and dozens of additional contributors. Charli ended the note on a personal touch, writing, “Finally, George, I love you so much. Thank you for everything.”

The heartfelt message arrives as Music, Fashion, Film begins its commercial rollout. Released on July 24 through Atlantic Records, the 11-track project immediately climbed to No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes Albums chart, extending the momentum generated by the singles “Rock Music,” “SS26,” “Wink Wink,” and “Camera.”

The album marks Charli’s first full-length release since the cultural phenomenon of BRAT, but instead of chasing the explosive club energy that defined that era, Music, Fashion, Film leans further into melodic pop songwriting while blending electronic textures with rock influences. Produced entirely by A. G. Cook and Finn Keane, the record embraces a tightly focused concept inspired by the intersection of music, fashion, and cinema.

That vision extended beyond the songs themselves. Earlier this summer, Charli unveiled the album artwork featuring Martin Scorsese, John Cale, and Marc Jacobs—three figures representing each creative discipline referenced in the title. She later revealed the now-iconic photoshoot took place inside a “random kitchen,” underscoring the project’s unconventional artistic direction.
