Ken Carson has finally provided an update on Cartunez. After missing its originally planned release earlier this month, the Opium rapper revealed on X that the project is now arriving “nxtweek,” signaling that the long-awaited EP is finally nearing release.
The brief announcement marks Carson’s first official update since Cartunez failed to appear on July 10, leaving fans wondering whether the project had been postponed indefinitely. While he stopped short of confirming an exact date, the post strongly suggests the EP will arrive before the end of July.
Cartunez was first announced on June 29 after Carson previewed a snippet from the project online. At the time, the EP was positioned as a companion release to his fifth studio album, Xperiment, with the two projects intended to arrive in consecutive weeks. Xperiment was released on July 3, while Cartunez was originally scheduled to follow one week later.
Instead of the EP, fans received only the official cover artwork on July 10. Four days later, Carson shared another unreleased snippet believed to be from the project, fueling speculation that the music was complete but simply delayed. No explanation for the postponement was ever provided.
The new release window comes as Xperiment continues its commercial run. The album debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 with 42,000 album-equivalent units in its opening week. The album features collaborations with Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Destroy Lonely and 2hollis.
