i-dle leader SOYEON has officially entered her next solo era with the release of “Star,” a high-energy new track that arrives ahead of her long-awaited new album. The song marks her first solo music video in five years and gives fans an early look at the direction of her upcoming full-length project.
“Star” is currently available exclusively through YouTube, with the track yet to arrive on streaming platforms. The release comes as anticipation builds for SOYEON’s first solo album since her 2021 debut EP Windy, which is scheduled to arrive in early September.
Built around an upbeat electro-pop foundation, “Star” pairs retro synthesizer riffs with crisp percussion and a driving synth bassline. SOYEON moves between rhythmic rap verses and catchy vocal refrains, repeatedly returning to the song’s central question: “Do you want a star?”
The accompanying music video pushes the song further into a Y2K-inspired visual world. SOYEON appears across hazy city scenes, neon-lit streets and graffiti-covered locations, with retro 4:3 framing, VHS-style glitches and bold text overlays giving the video a deliberately nostalgic edge.
The “Star” music video also marks SOYEON’s first solo music video in five years, making the release particularly significant ahead of her album campaign. Her last solo project, Windy, arrived in July 2021 and established a creative identity separate from her work with i-dle.
Since then, SOYEON has remained deeply involved in i-dle’s music, contributing to some of the group’s biggest songs, including “TOMBOY,” “Nxde,” “Queencard,” and “Mono.” Her work as a songwriter and producer has also expanded beyond the group, with SOYEON becoming a full member of the Korea Music Copyright Association and collaborating with artists including Anderson .Paak.
More recently, she has continued developing her production work under the alias Icebluerabbit. Her solo return has therefore been building for months, with SOYEON teasing “Star” during her performance at the Waterbomb Sokcho festival earlier this week.
