The final New Music Friday of May 2026 brings major returns across pop, rap, K-pop and legacy rock.
Ariana Grande leads the conversation with “hate that i made you love me,” the official lead single from her eighth studio album Petal, due July 31. Produced alongside longtime collaborators Max Martin and ILYA Salmanzadeh, the track arrives just days before the opening night of her Eternal Sunshine Tour on June 6 in Oakland. Grande spent the week teasing cryptic lyric fragments including “cause i barely tried” and “And I can see right through,” fueling speculation that the song explores emotional detachment and relational fallout. The release also marks her first major music move since Eternal Sunshine and follows weeks of discussion around her self-described “feral” creative direction for Petal. A music video starring Justin Long is set to premiere Monday.
Over in K-pop, aespa returns with Lemonade, their long-awaited second full-length studio album and first LP since 2024’s Armageddon. Released through SM Entertainment, the 12-track project is anchored by double title tracks “WDA (Whole Different Animal)” featuring G-Dragon and “Lemonade.” “WDA” has already gained strong streaming traction since its advance release last month, while additional collaborations with Ty Dolla $ign and Becky G suggest one of the group’s most globally expansive records yet.
Hip-hop’s most talked-about release this week belongs to Latto, who unveils her fourth studio album Big Mama through Streamcut and RCA Records. The 17-track set arrives after an intensely personal rollout that included confirmation of her first child with 21 Savage, who appears on “Hostage.” Additional appearances from Doja Cat, GloRilla, Wizkid, Sexyy Red, Mariah the Scientist and Teyana Taylor reinforce the project’s blockbuster scope.
Meanwhile, Paul McCartney releases The Boys of Dungeon Lane, his twentieth solo studio album and first full-length solo effort in more than five years. Recorded between 2021 and 2025, the Capitol Records release revisits his Liverpool upbringing while introducing new material shaped by reflection and late-career experimentation.
Adding to the global scale of the week, Future and Tyla team up for “Game Time,” another official anthem tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Following previous tournament-linked releases from Shakira and Burna Boy as well as LISA, Anitta and Rema, the track positions itself as a high-profile crossover built for stadium impact.
Noteworthy releases also come from Young Miko, Lily Allen & Jade, Shaboozey, LAU, Perrie, Ravyn Lenae, Bella Kay, and more.
